The trucker convoy and its supporters are gathering in Canada’s capital on Saturday to demand an end to COVID-19 vaccine mandates with a multi-day demonstration expected to grind official Ottawa’s business to a halt.
Big rigs lined Wellington Street– a portend of protesters to come, united by a vague message of ending COVID-19 measures and some calling for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down, after almost two full years of pandemic precautions.
About 100 vehicles, mostly trucks, were parked peacefully Saturday morning over three blocks on Wellington Street outside of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office, in Ottawa’s downtown core, as more filed through.
What started as a protest ostensibly about cross-border trucking vaccine mandates has morphed into a nationwide social and political debate.
