Mexico City: The Embassy of the State of Qatar to the United Mexican States announced the launch of the Embassies Football Cup Tournament, sponsored and organised by the Embassy in the stadiums of Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City in Mexico City.
This was announced during a press conference attended by the Director of the Sports Diplomacy Department of the Mexican Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Erik Del Angel, in addition to diplomatic representatives from the embassies participating in the tournament: Belgium, Romania, Russia, El Salvador, Chile, Ukraine, European Union, Canada, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Peru, and Kazakhstan, as well as a team from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Embassies tournament embodies sports diplomacy and represents an opportunity for cultural exchange between Qatar and Mexico and the participating countries in the tournament.
In this regard, Ambassador of Qatar to Mexico H E Mohammed bin Jassim Al Kuwari said the tournament symbolizes the friendship between the various embassies and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
He also said that Qatar is seeking through sport to achieve clear goals of peace and development, particularly sustainable development.
For his part, Erik Del Angel thanked the Embassy of Qatar for the initiative stressing his country’s desire to achieve greater communication with different embassies and cultures through sports activities.
