Obesity is the American nightmare. Some 60 million adults are obese, 9 million are severely obese, and 127 million overweight Americans are increasing their bulk. Often, they are stigmatized in school and in the workplace adding to their already diminishing self-confidence.
If you’re grappling with your weight problem, and doing something positive about it, you should be congratulated. Obese persons face the risk of early death from several cancers, diabetes, and a host of other killer diseases. Obesity is the next killer to cigarette smoking.
Or if you know someone who is fat, you’ll have heard the jeers and the taunts leveled at the poor fellow; the fall guy may take these in stride and laugh it off. He is often the guy who treats friends to Klondikes and hotdogs, and fishes out his dough from one those smart men’s money clips.
The only way for these guys to survive a culture that sneers on obesity is to stay away from people and be the butt of cruel jokes. Schoolmates will run off with their school lunch, books, men’s money clips, and their personal journals.
But fat guys are now taking the driver’s seat. They are reclaiming their lives by seeking medical help and joining support groups. If Mexican Manuel Uribe lost 200 kilos from his 560-kilogram weight, why can’t other guys with lesser weight succeed in getting rid of excess fat?
The low carb diet and other weight loss options
Fat guys should take the cue from Uribe. He used the low carb diet prescribed by doctors who helped him after his televised appeal for help. Just imagine yourself being in bed all the time for four years because you can’t get up to feel the sun on your face and have with family and friends.
Diet and exercise, surgery, drugs and supplements should be boosted with motivation and family support. Fat people feel this compulsive drive to eat the wrong food – pizzas, tacos, burgers, potatoes, and other carbohydrate rich meals.
Regular exercise under the supervision of trained professionals is also good start. If all else fail, options for surgical methods are available. One of the latest technique is the bariatric surgery. This is only applicable if the Body Mass Index or BMI is more than 35. Doctors will usually advise if this is right for you.
Seeing the sun again
People who lose weight successfully are happier persons. For men, it’s not their men’s money clips that will speak for them alone. It will be their new personalities.
You can help a loved one or a friend through the battle with obesity. Get them medical help and let them join support groups. Or you can start them on low carb diet. Show them pictures of the fattest guy in the world who couldn’t stand his life anymore. Perhaps you’ll touch a chord, and set them off to open their men’s money clips and fight the battle of the bulge.
When the battle is won, these guys will carrying their men’s money clips and their new figures with pride.
