As the Platinum Jubilee pageant came to its conclusion on Sunday, Queen Elizabeth II made a surprise appearance, walking out on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with members of the Royal Family to wave to the thousands in attendance.
A hologram of the Queen when she was younger had been seen in the windows of the Gold State Coach earlier in the pageant as it paraded down The Mall. It had been previously announced the monarch would not be a part of the pageant, though there were hopes she would make an appearance to wave to the crowds.
The pageant concluded the four days of events marking the monarch’s 70-year reign, with more than 10,000 performers taking part in four different acts, each helping tell the story of the Queen’s reign.
