A mayor of a small fishing town in Oaxaca, Mexico, recently got married to an alligator. He even kissed the reptile and the video of the same has gone viral on social media.
Mayor Victor Hugo Sosa of San Pedro Huamelula got married to the seven-year-old alligator as villagers believe her to be a goddess representing Mother Earth.
A Reuters report said the marriage ritual involved dressing up the alligator in a white wedding dress. The wedding symbolises the joining of humans with the divine.

According to reports, the tradition of marrying alligators dates back centuries, to pre-Hispanic times, among Oaxaca state’s Chontal and Huave indigenous communities.
The clip got more than two lakh views. Twitterati gave mixed reactions to the video. The wedding was carried out with a lot of pomp. Locals took the alligator in their arms as trumpets and drums were played in the background to celebrate the occasion.
